2016 Honda Civic

The 9th generation Honda Civic which was released in
2011 was a huge miss in the market. Even consumer reports
failed to offer recommendations for the car. Many people
complained about its dull interior and poor quality ride.

Learning on their mistake, Honda has released the
10th generation Civic dubbed the “ 2016 Honda Civic
” and has been touted as the most comprehensive development
ever undertaken by Honda. The new model has undergone a
complete restyling and will feature two new drive-trains. The
vehicle is offered in three body styles which are sedan, coupe
and hatchback. In addition, Honda will offer the Type R
hatchback and a performance-oriented Si models.

The highly regarded Civic Type R will be making its maiden debut in
the U.S. Though the 9th generation lost some
credibility in this highly competitive compact segment, the new
10th generation is set to propel Honda to take its
place as one of the market leaders in the segment.

The new exterior which is based on a new platform features an
advancement of the Civic model. At the front, the sedan
features an aggressive aerodynamic styling. There is a new
grille design flanked by LED headlights and LED daytime running
lights. It also features a high-tension side styling that rises
from the front wheel arches and stretches rearwards.

The 2016 Honda Civic also has a unique character line that runs
from behind the front wheels, across the doors all the way to
the rear wheel arches which complements its dynamic design. It
also features short overhangs and a sweeping cabin greenhouse.
It has a swooping line roof line and a flush-mounted rear
window which looks sleek and adds to its aerodynamics. The
headlights feature a wing design motif while the light pipe LED
taillights continue with the headlight styling its redesigned
rear lip spoiler adds a sporty flair on EX-T and above trims.

Just like the sedan, the 2016 Honda Civic sedan is based
on a new platform with a longer, lower and wider new stance.
Its wheelbase expands by 2.9 inches compared to the outgoing
model. The coupe is also 1.9 inches wider and with a roof that
is an inch lower. Its front overhangs are 1.4 inches shorter
while the rear overhangs are 5.5 inches shorter resulting in a
sportier profile. The vehicle also features a more raked
A-pillar. The coupe carries over the C-shaped LED taillights
and LED headlights. The sedan roof-line is also transferred to
the coupe. The lower trims of the sedan and coupe will ride on
16-inch alloy wheels and 17-inch wheels for high trim models.

The 2016 Honda Civic hatchback also features a sporty exterior
profile. It features a stylish grille flanked by redesigned LED
lights and small fog lamps to improve night vision that
accentuates the hood. The rear features a sporty spoiler. On
the sides, the Civic hatchback features a black-gloss privacy
glass to add to its aura. The hatchback will ride on 17-inch
alloy wheels.

2016 Honda Civic Interior

All models of  2016 Honda Civic have received an updated
interior styling. Their cabins will accommodate five
passengers. Premium clothing is the standard upholstery but
there is an option for leather upholstery in higher trim
levels. There is also an option for power adjustable, heated
and ventilated seats. Standard features across the models will
include automatic climate control, rearview camera, a 4-speaker
stereo system, Pandora internet radio, Bluetooth connectivity
and a USB port.

Higher trims will have an option for push-button start, Apple
CarPlay, Android auto Smartphone integration, a seven-inch
touch screen system, a 8-10 speaker sound system depending on
the trim level, dual-zone automatic climate control, HD radio
and satellite radio among others.

All models will have a larger cargo space which can be expanded
by folding the rear seats which have a 60/40 split-folding
capability.

When it comes to safety matters, the Honda is well equipped and
comes with an Advanced Compatibility Engineering body and
design and a full suite of Honda Sensing capabilities. It
includes forward collision warning, lane departure warning,
collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation,
multi-angle rearview camera, adaptive cruise control and Honda
lane watch.

Engine Specs and Performace

The 2016 Honda Civic will feature a number of engines. The base
LX trim will feature a new 2.0 l 4-cylinder engine which the
automaker says is the most powerful standard power-train in the
Civics’ history.

This engine delivers 158 hp and 138 lb-ft of torque. The engine
will be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission system and a
CVT as an option. However, the CVT will be standard in the EX
trim. The EX-T, EX-L and Touring trims will feature a 1.5 L,
4-cylinder turbocharged engine and will be paired with a
different kind of CVT system.  This engine is capable of
producing 174 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. The above two engines
will be offered both on the sedan and coupe. In terms of fuel
economy, official EPA ratings are yet to be released.

However the 1.5 L engine is expected to return 31 mpg city, 42
mpg highway and 35 mpg on combined drives. The 2.0 L engine on
the other hand will return 31 mpg, 41 mpg and 35 mpg for city,
highway and on combined drives respectively.

Price and release date

The sedan is already on sale. The Civic Coupe and hatchback
will be released in winter while the Si and the Civic Type R
will follow later in 2016.

When it comes to prices, the base LX trim of the sedan with a
manual transmission starts at MSRP $ 18,640 while the one with
a CVT goes for $ 20,440. The top EX-L trim attracts a $ 24,700
