Back in 2010, Chrysler displayed a new minivan that I believe
was…still is the best minivan I have ever set my eyes on. To
the motoring world, this was a huge surprise from Chrysler. We
all thought it was meant to replace the Dodge
Grand Caravan minivans but the automaker remained
tightlipped about the model during the show only saying they
were looking to hear what people thought about it. Well, that
was the last time we heard and saw the minivan…until now.
Back three decades ago, the automaker revolutionized the world
of minivans which saw millions of their brands in American
driveways and the Pacifica seeks to repeat the fete. The
vehicle which also comes with an hybrid variant will be fully
loaded with up-to-date technology and with an enviable fuel
efficiency that is estimated to reach 80 mpge.
2017 Chrysler Pacifica Exterior
From whichever direction you look at it, the Pacifica presents
a fresh take on this family hauling market segment. Its
exterior design is sharp and chiseled and good looking
too…terms we don’t commonly use on minivans. The Pacifica
borrows the front looks from the Chrysler 200 sedan. It
features a swooping chrome grille which is flanked by projector
The front fascia also serves as a starting point of shapely
body lines that flow rearward resulting in an elegant look.
Chrome accent continues on the lower sections of side doors,
side windows perimeter and the roof rails. The rear fascia is
monochromatic with only a slight chrome accent on the lower
bumper. The wheels are also hooked up with a smoky chrome
looks. The headlights, taillights and DRLs all utilize LED
The design has moved the bar for this segment higher and other
automakers have to dig deeper to beat Chrysler. The minivan is
very appealing and looks high-class compared with other
minivans in its class. Gone is the old mommy-mobile feel and in
comes something cool and desirable. The exterior is offered in
10 colors. Buyers will choose between the following trim
levels, they are the base LX, mid Touring-L, Touring-L Plus,
Limited and the top Platinum trim.
2017 Chrysler Pacifica Interior
The Town and Country minivan has one of the best interior
designs in this segment. It is for this reason that every year
hundreds of thousands of buyers go for it. Its ability to carry
lots of stuff and many passengers courtesy of its Stop ‘n’ Go
seating arrangement further enhances its aura.
Now the Pacifica takes those impressive design cues from the
Chrysler T & C and upgrades them to the next level. The
vehicle accommodates 8 passengers spread over its 3-row seating
arrangement. The dashboard looks picked from the 200
sedan, same as the doors which adds a dose of modernity and
attractiveness which the automaker has been introducing to its
new fleet of cars. There is also a new 8.4-inch Uconnect
screen flush-mounted on the dash.
Second row passengers also get an Uconnect Theater which is
mostly targeted for kids. The system features a pair of 10-inch
touch-screens placed on the headrests of front seatbacks. The
screens are controlled by kid-oriented software. Buyers will
have an option to choose either a 13 or 20-speaker sound
system. A three-pane sunroof which is the first of its kind and
a built-in vacuum system which first appeared in the Honda
Odyssey are offered as options.
The Stow ‘n’ Go seats have been redesigned and features larger
seats which are more comfortable. The seats fold flat to the
floor in their new receptacles curved between the frame rails.
According to the automaker, a child seat can be installed to
the second row without compromising access to the third row.
The new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica minivan will be equipped with
two drive-trains, a conventional and a plug-in hybrid.
The conventional engine is a 3.6 L Pentastar V-6 which is
capable of pumping out 287 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. The
engine is paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission system
which features a dial shifter on the center console.
The plug-in hybrid drive-train features the same 3.6 LV-6. The
engine combines with a 16 kWh lithium-ion battery to provide a
fuel economy of 80 mpge. The hybrid engine has a 30 miles
range on electric power alone and. All models will be offered
in front-wheel drive mode. The stop-start function will be
Price and release date
Expect the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica to hit dealerships in the
spring. The plug-in hybrid variants will follow up later
on. The automaker has not released an official price for
the Pacifica but we believe it will be slightly expensive than
2017 Town & Country which starts at $ 29,000, fully
equipped higher trims will get pretty expensive and for a good
reason. We will let you know of the official prices once FCA
makes official announcements.
The model was showcased at the recently concluded Detroit Auto
show and will go on sale later in the year as a 2017 model.
The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica will battle with KIA Sedona and
Odyssey for the control of the market segment.
