2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350

When reports emerged in February that the 2017 Ford Mustang
Shelby GT350 would be offered with many of the current model’s
optional features as standard, few of us believed the news but
deep inside we hoped the rumors were true. Finally, the good
news is here, the Blue Oval automaker has confirmed the rumors.

This confirmation comes after customers complained of the 2016
optional packages. In the current models, customers can choose
from two optional packages i.e. the Technology Package and
Track Package. A customer cannot select both which means one
can either have premium performance features at the expense of
premium comforts or vice versa. This didn’t go down well with
enthusiasts who wanted a piece of the both worlds. However,
with the 2017 model, Ford seems to have changed all that as the
automaker announced that the vehicle will be available with
performance parts as standard features. Read along to find out
more on the changes:

2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 Exterior

The 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 continues with its mean
look. The front end has been altered. To be specific, the nose
has been reduced in order to minimize aerodynamic drag. The
body has also been slightly altered to maximize aerodynamics.

The front also features a new splitter. The grille on the other
hand is equipped with angled ducts that help convey more
cooling air to the monster engine under the hood. The fog
lights have been done away with and in their place are new
vents to funnel air to the brakes. A Shelby badge is featured
on the nose. The hood also features a gigantic air vent meant
to increase aerodynamic efficiency and air flow through the
car. “I hear that the vehicle also features a ducted belly
pan”.

The rear comes with a functional diffuser which aids airflow as
well as provide down-force. The vehicle’s rear also features a
mild lip spoiler which stretches across its tail’s end.

2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 Interior

Inside of the new Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 2017, you will find
an interior with numerous sporting detailing just like the
exterior profile. Its new Recaro seats are well shaped and
bolstered; in addition, the seats are upholstered in a quality
cloth made specifically for this model. The seats are
comfortable during long drives and very supportive during track
events. The cabin features less bright trims on the cabin to
ensure the driver is not distracted during a race.

Drivers will love its new customizable Performance Shift Light
Indicator usually a preserve of full-fledged race cars. This
feature signals the perfect engine speed for the shift point
for the driver. The feature is actually a head-up display
mounted in front of the driver and is controlled via the
vehicle’s information center located in the gauge cluster. It
also allows the driver to set shift points.

New changes

As said earlier, features of the outgoing model’s Track Package
are now standard offerings. They include the aluminum strut
tower brace, the MagneRide Suspension system, oil coolers for
the engine and the down-force rear spoiler I talked about
earlier.

The Technology Package has also been done away with and
replaced with a new package dubbed the Electronics Package
which packs even more features including SYNC 3 Infotainment
system which features a 9-speaker sound system and a
voice-activated navigation system plus  all features of
the previous Electronics Package. Next is a new Convenience
Package which comes with all features of the Electronics
Package and adds leather-trimmed seats bucket seats in place of
the Recaro seats which are standard. The front seats are also
power adjustable, heated and cooled.

The vehicle will be offered in three exterior colors which are
Ruby Red Metallic, Lightning Blue and Grabber Blue.

Engine Specs and performance

Under the hood, the 2017 Mustang Shelby GT350 gets a 5.2 L, V-8
engine which spits 526 horses and 429 lb-ft of torque. This is
an excellent fete bearing in mind that the engine does not have
any turbo’s or superchargers.

This power is channeled to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual
gearbox that uses a unique Ford-tuned Torsen limited slip
differential. The muscle car charges from 0-60 mph in 3.5
seconds. At this speed, the Mustang is the fastest naturally
aspirated coupe in the market today.

The engine is also combined with a customized exhaust system
with 4 exhaust outlets which produce a unique sound that will
announce its presence wherever it goes.

Price and release date

In releasing the information about the new features of the new
Ford Mustang Shelby GT350, Ford did not give any hint on the
price front. However, there is a rumor going around that the
model will be slightly expensive than the 2016 model.

According to this rumor, the vehicle will start at $ 56,495
which is slightly more than the outgoing model’s starting price
of $ 48,695 plus the $6,500 Track Package. This might not go
down well with some enthusiasts. The 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby
GT350 will arrive in Ford dealerships in June this year.

Competition

The 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 will go head to head with
the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 whose new model is expected to put up
more than 500 horses. The
Dodge Challenger is another awesome muscle car that will
stand on the GT350’s way.
