It is a tradition for Lamborghini to follow up the release of a
new model with two special versions, a Roadster and a
Superleggera. The latter is Italian for “superlight”. Since the
automaker released the Huracan Spyder in 2015, it was only a
matter of time before we saw one of the two versions testing.
It seems the automaker has decided to start with a Superleggera
version. Our spy photographers caught up with the 2017
Lamborghini Huracan Superleggera making its testing runs at the
Nurburgring testing cycle. Though information about the vehicle
is still scanty, we have gathered the following:
2017 Lamborghini Huracan Superleggera Exterior and Interior
The model we captured of the Superleggera testing was under no
camouflage but I believe many cues will change in the final
production model. For example, that front number plate will
certainly be relocated. There will also be a modified front
splitter. Most changes are focused on the rear where the
vehicle features a black box that looks to be adopted straight
from a fighter jet.
The rear also features a new bumper and a blacked-out fascia
with quad exhaust pipes. These exhaust pipes will likely be
located to lie a bit higher in the production model. The
production model will most likely feature a rear wing to add
more downforce. The rear will also likely feature a revised
diffuser and a new spoiler.
As its name infers, the Lambo’ will have a significant less
curb weight than the standard Huracan. The automaker will
achieve this weight loss via stripping most things out of the
cabin. The vehicle will also feature a huge dose of carbon
fiber in various panels.
It is projected that the model will drop around 200 lbs from
the standard Huracan. Alcantara trim will be used unsparingly
in the cabin. The seats will likely feature carbon fiber
frames. Just like the Gallardo Superleggera, the Huracan
Superleggera will feature power windows and an automatic air
conditioning system. Check back later for more information on
both the exterior and interior.
Engine Specs and performance
It is not clear what power-train Lamborghini will fit under the
hood of the Superleggera. However, the engine chosen will be
powerful than that on the standard Huracan as is the tradition.
Every Superleggera model usually comes with a slight power
bulge over the model it is based on.
For example, the Gallardo Superleggera added 10 horses on the
Gallardo’s 552 horses. Currently, the standard rear-wheel drive
Huracan LP 580-2 produces 582 hp while the more potent AWD
Huracan LP 610-4 produces 601 hp. I expect the automaker to add
around 20 or 30 horses on the latter taking its output to 640
hp. The probable engine to accomplish this would be a 5.7 L,
Going by the naming strategy the Superleggera should then take
the “LP 630-4” or “LP 640-4” with the “4’ indicating it is a
four-wheel drive car. The engine will be paired with the
similar 7-speed dual-clutch automatic system just like on the
standard Huracan. This should help the model improve the 3.2
seconds, the current Huracan takes to move from 0-60 mph.
Price and release date
Lamborghini is yet to release official prices or the on-sale
date of the upcoming Huracan Superleggera since it is too
early. According to rumors, the model will receive a price hike
of around $20,000 over the current Huracan which starts at
around $ 200,000.
A price of around $ 220,000 is thus probable. Rumor has it that
the model will be released in the second half of 2017 with a
public display at one of the international shows in 2017. In
the meantime, the vehicle has to undergo many more testing
The body is largely unchanged from the current Huracan which I
believe be altered even though slightly by the time the model
makes a full public appearance.
The biggest rival of new 2017 Lamborghini Huracan Superleggera
as you would expect comes from the traditional nemesis, the
Ferrari. Ferrari too is set to release a new model dubbed
Ferrari 488 GTB Scuderia by 2017. This is a tweaked version of
488 GTB. McLaren will also rival the two models with their
