2018 Chevrolet Equinox

If you are interested in for the new 2018 Chevrolet Equinox,
you not only one. The Equinox is one of Chevrolet most
successful crossovers having sold over a million units since in
North America alone since the second-generation model was
launched in 2010; the model is more popular in Europe.
Ever since its initial inception in 2005 in the compact SUV
market which was fairly new at the time, the vehicle has gained
a lot of popularity. Its second generation was starting to look
a bit rusty and needed an extensive refresh.

Despite its popularity, buyers of the outgoing model complained
of its non-impressive fuel economy and its lack of adequate
safety features, areas Chevrolet is keen on improving with the
new model. Already we have seen some of these improvements in
the spy shots our photographers have managed to capture. Though
the vehicle was under heavy camouflage, we have been able to
gather the following information about it:

2018 Chevrolet Equinox Exterior

The 2018 Chevrolet Equinox will be completely revised. It will
be based on a new compact platform referred to as the D2XX
platform. The new platform will result in a reduced curb weight
which will have a direct impact on fuel economy and

The new vehicle looks much more sportier than the outgoing
model. The front is where most changes lie. First, the model
will have a new grille flanked by revised LED projector
headlights and DRLs on LT and LTZ trims. The front will also
feature new fog lights. According to credible reports, higher
trim levels will feature a larger grille with a chrome

As said earlier, the vehicle our spy shots captured testing was
under heavy camouflage hence we cannot tell much of its boy
design. However, it is clear the rear will sport redesigned
bumper inserts and dual-element taillights. In addition, rumor
has it that base models will ride on 17-inch wheels while
higher trims will get 18 inches.

Other body panels were under camouflage meaning they have been
revised. Once we get a shot of the vehicle without camouflage
or the automaker reveals more information we will readily
update you.

2018 Chevrolet Equinox Interior

Our photographers didn’t get close enough to take interior
shots of the cabin. However, I am of the view that even if they
got close enough, the cabin wouldn’t have revealed much. This
is because the model is still far away from its on sale date
meaning the cabin styling is not yet ready. Most likely, the
automaker was only testing the model to see how it responds in
the streets.

We understand that the vehicle will have improved features to
offer a more comfortable driving experience. According to
rumors, there will be a 7.0-inch touch-screen. It will also
feature an OnStar system with 4GLTE connectivity as well as
WI-Fi hotspots. There will also be a rearview camera. For
entertainment, the vehicle will feature a radio and a quality
sound system.  For rear entertainment, there will be a
pair of tablets mounted on the headrests of the front seats.

Unlike the outgoing model, safety has been enhanced with the
inclusion of a quality package of airbags. It will also come
with various driving aids such as forward collision warning,
blind spot monitoring, stability and traction control, rear
cross traffic alert, lane departure assist and high beam lights
(higher trims) among others.

Engine Specs and performance

The automaker had not released official drive-trains of the
Equinox as of this writing. However, rumor has it that the
model will feature the same lineup of engines as the Buick
Envision.  If this is true, then expect to find a 2.5 L,
4-cylinder engine under the hood of base models.

The second engine will be turbocharged, a fact we can see in
one of our spy shots where the front bumper is removed to
reveal an intercooler of the turbocharged engine. The Buick is
powered by a 2.0 L, turbocharged engine but according to
rumors, Chevrolet will use a 1.5 L engine like the one on the
Malibu sedan to balance power with fuel economy.

Both engines will be paired with a 6-speed automatic
transmission but since the models are still far away, the
automaker could hook it up with a 9-speed automatic
transmission which GM is working on in partnership with Ford
The models will be offered with front-wheel drive as
standard  though all-wheel drive will be available.

Price and release date

Over the past year, Chevrolet has been busy releasing one model
after the other. Due to this, the automaker might delay the
2018 Equinox’s release date. However, the model is likely to
come in the second quarter of 2017.

As for the price, it is way too early for the automaker to
release official details. Due to the competition in the
segment, don’t expect the price to vary much from that of the
current model which starts at $ 23,495 and rise to as much as

This segment is very competitive with competing manufacturers
constantly upgrading their models. The 2018 Chevrolet Equinox
top competitors will be the likes of Nissan
Rogue, Ford
Escape, Mazda
Hyundai Tucson, Toyota RAV 4,

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, Acura
RDX, Jeep Compass and Honda
