2018 Honda S2000 Rumors

Do you remember the Honda S2000 Roadster that debuted in 1998?
Well, rumor has it that Honda is set to bring it back. Honda is
facing pressure from dealers and enthusiasts to offer a more
excitement and dynamism in its lineup, particularly in the US.
This comes after the Japanese automaker failed to bring the
S660 to North America, terming it as too small for the market.
According to rumors, the pressure to bring an affordable sports
car with a retractable hardtop has been immense forcing the
automaker to rethink its strategy. The 2018 Honda S2000 is seen
as one of the best options as it was a huge hit back in its
days.

Rumor has it that the S2000 will be released as a 2018 model
and part of its 70th anniversary celebrations. This
will come exactly 20 years after the model as unveiled to
celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary. The new
S2000 will be the size of the Mazda
MX-5 Miata. As of this writing, most information about this
model is pure rumors but as it is said, where there’s smoke,
there’s bound to be fire and chances of the S2000 showing up
are very high. Read along to find out what we have managed to
gather from the ongoing rumors:

2018 Honda S2000 Exterior

We don’t know what the S2000 will look like but we believe it
will borrow much from three cars. First, the model will borrow
some cues from the original S2000 and then adopt some modern
cues from the S660 and the Precision Concept.

Most rumors, however, argue that the model will be a longer
version of the S660. As of now, the automaker does not have a
dedicated compact sports car platform to base the model.
Building a platform for a single car is usually expensive and
Honda has first to ascertain that there is a good enough
market.

This means, if the model will be built, it will be built from
scratch with a standalone platform.  As for its weight,
the model will be very light and is estimated to weigh around
2,900 lbs.

The cabin will be designed to offer quality features that
compete with its rivals. Expect a quality infotainment system
with a large display mounted on the dash.  Since the
vehicle is targeted to young adults, it will carry a premium
sounds system enough to satisfy any audiophile.

Connectivity features like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi which enable
Smartphone integration will be offered. As for the seats, the
front seats will likely be bucket seats which offer improved
support when rushing along the highways in double digit speed.
The rear will have constrained legroom and headroom due to its
small wheelbase and overall length.

Engine Specs

There is no official information about potential engines.
However, rumor mills argue that the automaker will use a hybrid
drive-train that will power the rear wheels.  The
drive-train being talked about is a 2.0 L, turbocharged
4-cylinder engine combined with a rear-mounted electric motor
as well as two front electric motors just like the Acura
Precision Concept that Honda showcased at the recent Detroit
Auto Show.

The combination is expected to produce around 200 hp. Due to
its aerodynamic body and light curb weight, the model is
expected to have a fast acceleration speed. It will also have
impressive fuel economy.

Price and release date

According to rumors, if the model will be produced, it will be
availed in time for the 70th anniversary
celebrations in 2018. As for the price, it is difficult to
estimate due to the fact that the last units of the model were
sold over a decade ago. However, the S2000 will be
strategically priced to compete with its rivals. As such,
expect its price to start at around $ 25,000 or less.
