2018 Mercedes Maybach GLS

Mercedes acquired Maybach sometime ago and closed it down. Many
believed that was the end of the Maybach brand but recently,
the automaker proved the critics wrong by releasing a Mercedes
S600 Maybach; an improved version of the original S600.

Now the Daimler’s ultra-luxurious Maybach sub-brand is looking
to follow it up with the release of a Maybach GLS which will go
by the name “ 2018 Mercedes Maybach GLS ”, the vehicle will be
a full size SUV.

 2018 Mercedes Maybach GLS Exterior

The Maybach will have a regular length of the GLS but with a
longer wheelbase. This means the rear door will be larger than
that of a regular model. We expect the Maybach GLS to take many
exterior cues of the standard GLS model.

Additional features will include double- M emblems, specially
designed 21-inch alloy wheels and chrome window sills. On the
front, the grille will be also different from the standard
model and will feature 3 chrome double air intakes. The rear
will also resemble a standard GLS except for the redesigned
exhaust pipes and addition of more chrome finish to the bumper.

2018 Mercedes Maybach GLS Interior

The regular GLS is a 7-seater vehicle but we believe the 2018
Mercedes Maybach GLS will be offered with only 4 seats to offer
optimum luxury and comfort. Only well moneyed guys can afford
these type of cars and most of them like being chauffeured
around while they seat at the rear left.

Bearing this in mind, the rear passengers will get most of the
amenities in the new SUV. The rear passengers will have plenty
of leg and head room. They will seat on two individual “first
class” seats. The rear passengers will also get most of the
entertainment gadgets and features which will be fitted at the
back of front seats. Between the two rear seats, there will be
a center console that will give access to special settings for
massaging options for the seats, dual-zone climate control, cup
holders control and the infotainment system.

The cabin will also feature an optional fridge and a Magic SKY
sunroof that can be changed to opaque via a push of a button.
Finest leather and wood trim will be used on the cabin. To
offer a comfortable ride, the Maybach will feature an
electronically operated Airmatic suspension as standard.

Engine Specs and Performance

It is still early for the automaker to release details on the
power-trains that will drive this new SUV. However, to compete
with the recently unveiled Bentley Bentayga, we believe
Mercedes has two engine choices.

The first option is a 6.0 L V-12 twin-turbo engine borrowed
from the S600.This engine is capable of delivering 650 hp and
750 lb-ft of torque.  We also believe that the 4.7 L V-8
twin-turbocharged power-train from the GL550 can do the job
well. This unit produces 429 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque.

This engine accelerates from 0-60 mph in 5 seconds, while
the top speed is limited to 155 mph. Whatever engine the
automaker will take, it will be hooked up with a 4MATIC
all-wheel drive mode as standard and a 9-speed automatic
transmission system.

Price and release date

It is way early for the auto maker to release an official price
or release date. However, since this car is meant to compete
with the 2017 Bentley
Bentayga which will be the most expensive SUV when it comes
out, the 2018 Mercedes Maybach GLS will have a price of over $
150,000 and even $ 250,000 for specially equipped models. We
expect to see a production model before the end of 2016 and
sales to follow later in the first half of 2017.
